ENERGY VISIONS SERIES: Will the world see a net zero emissions future by 2050?

The Paris agreement aims to drive global greenhouse gas emissions down to net zero in the second half of the century.  Some countries have shown leadership at the global level. In the European Union some member states have already grasped the nettle. Finland, France and Sweden have set their own goals for becoming carbon-neutral.

Pressure is therefore mounting to do more, although some countries are still resistant. When should net zero carbon emissions be reached, especially in light of the Paris goals to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius, and eventually 1.5 degrees, by 2100? And how?

Few days before COP 24 and as part of POLITICO’s Energy Visions series, POLITICO brings together senior policymakers, business and civil society representatives for a frank discussion to reflect on the solutions to achieve a net zero emissions future in the second half of the century and to finance the global energy transition.
